Wassily Kandinsky (painter): The Russian painter, born in 1866, is widely credited as the pioneer of abstract art. He believed that colors and shapes had spiritual resonance and could express emotions independently of any subject matter.

How Sketch Challenges Work
Sketch Challenges are a dynamic part of our site, designed to inspire creativity and showcase member contributions across a variety of themes and formats.
OPEN Challenges
These are actively accepting submissions and are clearly marked throughout the site. Each OPEN challenge includes:
A dedicated submission form
A live gallery displaying current entries
A countdown or entry cap (challenges close when either is reached)
OPEN challenges may appear as standalone posts or as part of broader articles where we’re actively seeking member sketches to highlight a specific theme or destination.
Integrated Challenges
Once a challenge closes, it becomes part of the site’s permanent content. We don’t label these as “CLOSED,” but their submission forms are no longer active. You can still view all submitted sketches in the gallery, and use past challenges for personal practice or inspiration.
Ongoing Member Contributions
Members are welcome to submit sketches for editorial features at any time. Our editors regularly select work from Member Galleries to include in articles, prompts, and destination posts. This is part of being a member—your art helps shape the visual voice of the entire site, not just your personal gallery.
